The Licking County Historical Society is located in the upstairs of the Buckingham Meeting House (Street Address: 5 N. Sixth Street). The public is invited to research topics of local and historic interest in the library and archives, open Tuesday-Friday from 10 AM – 3 PM. LCHS also owns and operates two house museums, the Sherwood-Davidson (next door to the Buckingham Meeting House in Veterans’ Park) and the Webb (located at 303 Granville Street, Newark), which are open for tours May through December. The downstairs of the Buckingham Meeting House is a great historical venue and is available for rental for parties, meals, and celebrations.

Licking County Government Preservation Society (Historic Jail)

The Historic Jail has had far more than its share of horror since its opening in 1889. Within the walls of this fortress, Four sheriffs have died as well as 14 inmates. The Old Jail was home for some infamous murderers including "The Hand Saw Slayer," "The 22 Caliber Serial Killers," "The Proposal Day Murderer," and many more.

The Licking County Genealogical Society was formed 14 March 1970 and became a Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society 15 April 1972. We are located on the 2nd floor of the Licking County/Main Library.
